What do you buy?

Preloved Gold purchases a wide range of items containing precious metals, including gold, silver, and platinum. We also buy jewellery, luxury watches, precious metal bullion, ingots, nuggets, scrap, and broken items, as well as gold and silver coins.

We do not purchase gold or silver plated items, costume jewellery, or standalone diamonds and gemstones.

If gemstones are set within jewellery, you may choose to remove them prior to appraisal. If left in place, the total weight of the item will be assessed inclusive of the stones, with valuation based solely on the precious metal content.

Common items we purchase include:

  • Jewellery: rings, chains, bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and similar items
  • Luxury watches: Rolex, Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer, Piaget, Bulgari, and others
  • Precious metal bullion: ingots, bars, nuggets, scrap, and broken pieces
  • Estate and antique jewellery, including pocket watches
  • Gold and silver coins

How are items assessed?

All items are evaluated using a combination of modern testing technology and traditional verification methods to ensure accuracy and transparency.

  1. XRF Analysis (X-ray Fluorescence)
We utilise advanced XRF technology to determine the precise metal composition of your items. This non-destructive testing method analyses the atomic structure of the metal, allowing us to accurately identify and measure the presence of gold, silver, platinum, and other precious metals in real time.
  2. Hallmark Identification
Hallmarks are official stamps used to indicate the purity and authenticity of precious metals. These are commonly found on jewellery and coins and provide a useful indication of metal content.

Typical hallmark locations include:

  • Coins: usually on the face or reverse
  • Rings: inside the band
  • Bracelets and necklaces: often on the clasp

Gold purity is commonly indicated in karats (K), with 24K representing pure gold.

  1. Acid Testing (where required)
In certain cases, acid testing may be used as a supplementary verification method. This involves applying a small mark from the item onto a testing stone and introducing acid solutions to confirm metal type and purity. Different acid strengths are used depending on the suspected karat level, allowing for further confirmation where necessary.

All testing methods are conducted carefully and professionally to ensure accurate valuation while preserving the integrity of your items wherever possible.
