Do you buy silver?

Yes. Preloved Gold purchases all types of solid silver items, including both investment-grade and pre-owned silver in a wide range of forms. We regularly buy sterling silver and other high-purity silver items, as well as scrap and broken silver pieces, provided they contain genuine precious metal content.

We accept silver in many forms, including jewellery, coins, bullion bars, ingots, flatware, decorative items, and industrial or scrap silver. Items may be new, used, damaged, or incomplete—value is determined based on the underlying silver content rather than condition or appearance.

Common silver items we purchase include sterling silver jewellery such as rings, chains, bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, as well as silver coins from recognised mints and historic issuers. We also buy silver bullion in both bar and minted formats, ranging from small fractional bars through to larger investment-grade pieces. In addition, we purchase estate silverware, including cutlery sets, trays, serving pieces, and ornamental items that contain solid silver.

All silver items are assessed based on their purity, weight, and current market value. Sterling silver, for example, is typically marked as “925,” indicating 92.5% pure silver content. Other markings such as “999” may indicate fine or pure silver, particularly in bullion products and investment coins. Where hallmarks are present, these assist in verifying authenticity and purity, although all items are independently tested regardless of markings.

We use a combination of advanced testing methods, including XRF (X-ray fluorescence) analysis, hallmark verification, and industry-standard assessment techniques to accurately determine silver content. This ensures a transparent and precise valuation process without causing damage to your items.

It is important to note that we do not purchase silver-plated items. Silver plating involves only a thin surface layer of silver over a base metal, which does not contain sufficient precious metal content to hold intrinsic value. As such, plated items such as EPNS (Electro Plated Nickel Silver), silver-plated cutlery, or decorative plated objects are not accepted.

However, if you are unsure whether your item is solid silver or plated, our team can assess it during appraisal and provide clarification. Many items that appear similar may differ significantly in value depending on their composition.

At Preloved Gold, all valuations are based on real-time silver spot prices, ensuring that you receive a fair and competitive offer aligned with current market conditions. Whether you are selling individual pieces, inherited items, or larger collections, we provide a secure, transparent, and efficient process for converting silver into cash.

Our goal is to make the selling process simple and straightforward, while ensuring every item is accurately tested and fairly valued.
